PREAMBLE
With the world’s highest immigrant concentration (population and mix), America’s socio-cultural and economic fiber stands to profit immensely from any human resource initiative that would focus on sharpening the social, cultural academic and professional skills of its new immigrants and extended stay visitors. It is against this background that a National African Immigrant Resource Center (NAIRC) has been established to cater for the development needs of the African immigrant population, an under-resourced demographic within the national immigrant community.
HISTORY
The Center was birthed after extensive research, literature reviews, community consultations, surveys and other investigative processes confirmed that very little attention was being devoted to supporting African immigrants. Another motivating factor for the establishment of the NAIRC is the steady increase in the African immigrant population resulting from the Diversity Visa Lottery which gives equal opportunity to both literate and semi illiterate Africans to pursue the American dream.
CONCLUSION
The National African Immigrant Resource Center is a Bridge for Success that should have been established decades ago considering the high voluntary and involuntary immigration trends from Africa to America. With the help of federal and local governments, partner institutions, the African Diplomatic Corps in Washington and other stake holders, it is anticipated that the Center will grow very quickly to meet the rising multifaceted needs of the US based African immigrant.
